Llangattock Quarries are extensive limestone quarries running for some 4.8 kilometres (3 miles) along the north facing Llangattock escarpment at 335 metres (1,100ft) to 396 metres (1,300ft) above sea level. They were developed circa 1799 with the opening of the Brecknock & Abergavenny Canal, with a tramroad linking the two built in 1816, via a balance worked incline.

A further tramroad built in 1825 by Baileys followed the 396 metres (1,300ft) contour southwards to supply limestone to Nantyglo Ironworks. Below the limestone strata, at approximately 244 metres (800ft), was a sandstone quarry supplying block, flagstones and lintels.
