St Cattwg church is probably late 13th century or early 14th century, with a superbly-proportioned and finely-finished west tower added or rebuilt c.1525. The tower was restored and the chancel rebuilt by John Prichard in 1872-9.

The church has both north and south porches. The nave, porches and chancel are all built of warm-hued Old Red Sandstone with roofs of small grey slates; the tower of greyer-hued ashlar. There is a very prominent pipe-shaped gargoyle and a tall weather-cock. Internally the church has a late medieval ribbed barrel-vaulted roof.
