Description
1. Animal wall late 19th century. West Lodge 1863.

2. The wall was built in 1887-8, with additions made in 1930, during alterations made to the castle by the Marquess of Bute and Burges. Currently located between the SW angle of the castle and the West Lodge, the wall originally stood in front of the castle between the clock tower and the S wall before being moved to its present location in 1930. The wall, constructed of stone with iron gates, features statues of animals on alternate merlons, including a lynx, hyena, beaver, and anteater.
