Site Description Cenotaph located in Victoria Square in the centre of Aberdare.
A moulded granite pillar on a stepped plinth possibly supporting a stylised sarcophagus. Of rectangular cross-section it has inscriptions in both English (on the broader faces) and Welsh (on the narrower faces) commemorating the dead of the First World War, the Second World War, ‘and all other conflict’. No individual names are inscribed.
The Cenotaph was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in a similar style to the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London, and unveiled in 1923.
