Description
Cenotaph located in Victoria Square in the centre of Aberdare.
A moulded granite pillar on a stepped plinth possibly supporting a stylised sarcophagus. Of rectangular cross-section it has inscriptions in both English (on the broader faces) and Welsh (on the narrower faces) commemorating the dead of the First World War, the Second World War, `and all other conflict?. No individual names are inscribed.
The Cenotaph was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in a similar style to the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London, and unveiled in 1923.
