Description
Cenotaph (including area Walls and Steps). Located to the east of the main entrance to Memorial Hall. Raised after the First World War and unveiled in November 1932, probably by E R Hinchsliff, borough surveyor. Reconstituted stone war memorial with inscriptions "In proud memory of the men of Barry who fell in the Great War, 1914-1918, 1939-1945", "For freedom". Central core of truncated tapering obelisk has, to each side, narrower vertical plain panel stepped down; panels on base with inscriptions in Welsh and English. Cenotaph set within slightly raised octagonal area bounded by low walls with steps between. (Cadw Listing database)
