Description
A church dedicated to St Philip and St James was located at Gwrhay in the Sirhowy valley, north of Oakdale, and situated on the north bank of Nant Gwrhay. It was built in the period 1853-8 to designs of architect John Norton of London. Architect's drawings suggest it comprised nave with south-west porch, and narrower chancel with vestry on the north-east. The church appears to have survived into the post-Second World War period (according to Ordnance Survey mapping) but it has since been demolished. The footings of the church are still visible on air photos within the surrounding graveyard. No further information.
