Coal was being shipped from Llanelli before the sixteenth century. Subsequently a number of other docks were built, including North Dock (NPRN 34207), Carmarthenshire Dock (NPRN 34193), Pemberton Dock (NPRN 34216), Copperworks Dock (NPRN 34194) and New or Great Western Dock (NPRN 309244). Most are now closed and infilled with only Carmarthenshire and North Dock surviving.
