Archive2024-12-10_5031TitleCFE_02_02LevelSub-groupDescriptionPlan entitled "The Urban and District Council of Towyn, Proposal for a Physical Training Centre and Hall at Aberdovey", dated April 1939.
The hall was never built, and after the Second World War, a smaller hall (now known as Neuadd Aberdyfi) was built on a nearby site.
The original plan is impressive, and includes a theatre/cinema, as well as a physical training hall, toilets and changing rooms, and a flat for a caretaker and their family. The proposed site was likely to have been where Aberdovey Hall once stood, now a small estate of houses called 'Parc yr Ysgol'.Medium1 outsize plan.Imagesn

The plans relate to renovation work at the Midland Bank, Aberdovey, located on Sea View Terrace, with the side elevation of the building running along Copper Hill Street. There is some pale marginalia in the top right hand corner of the plan indicating that this copy belonged to the Clerk of Works.
The building has not been a bank since at least 2009.
The plan is undated, but was undertaken for Woodfall and Eccles (FRIBA), Architects - 60 Cattle Street, Liverpool.
No author is acknowledged, but the handwriting looks similar to that of Ellis.Medium1 outsize plan.Imagesn
