Description
Lower Trostre Ironworks was located on the west bank of the Ebbw-fach river, to the south of Nant-y-glo. It is portrayed as 'Disused' on the first-edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map of the area, 1881. Depicted are furnaces (SO19420908), limekilns (SO19380905) and a possible engine house
(SO19450903) and nearby coal workings, all suggesting the works had only recently gone out of use.
A featureless length of rubble masonry revetting part of the coal-tips along the Ebbw-fach Valley has been noted.
