The former Board School in Powell's Place was planned by architects Lawrence and Goodman, as an 'L' shaped school building for 216 children. The school is marked on the first edition Ordnance Survey 25" map, MM XXXIII. 4, of 1884. Details of the building appear in 'The Builder' November 29th 1873.
