A roughly hewn pillar stone, 1.37m by 0.32m, inscribed vertically:
ALIORTVS ELMETIACO/HIC IACET
thought to signify 'Aliortus of Elmet lies here'. Elmet was an early medieval polity in the area of southern Yorkshire.
The inscription is thought to date to the 5th or early 6th century AD.
Found when extending the churchyard and reset within the north trancept of church in about 1865 (Nprn43685).
