The 1st, 2nd and 3rd editions of the historic 25-inch O. S. maps, published in 1889, 1900 and 1913 respectively, depict a watercourse and pond immediately south of the farmstead. The 2nd and 3rd editions both describe the pond as a mill pond with a sluice, suggesting that water power was exploited within the farmstead. It's interesting to note that the watercourse crossed the railway by an aqueduct next to the access track to the property; the aqueduct is still depicted on modern maps.
