Description
Formerly regarded as two lengths of Offa's Dyke (Nprn306866), abutting an earlier circle (Fox 1956, 22-27), this monument complex comprises a barrow, c.24m in diameter and 1.1m high, set eccentrically within an oval enclosure, c.82m by 72m, defined by a bank with an external ditch, which has two lengths of bank, ditched on either side, springing from it, that on the NW extending for c.184m, that on the SSE for c.68m.
The barrow was excavated in 1925, revealing an inhumation in a central pit and three secondary cremations, one in-urned.
A further, N-S, bank, with possible side ditches, cut by the circle, has been observed.
See Nprn306868.
