DescriptionThe construction of the dam and creation of the Lower Lliw Reservoir to provide water for Swansea Town Council was authorized in 1860 and was commenced in 1862. The work was completed and the lake filled in October 1867. Subsequent alterations at the site in 1879 included construction of a wooden flume some 788 long, comprising pine piles 15ft apart, this structure was recorded by RCAHMW in 1976 when the waters of the reservoir were temporarily drained. The original dam was demolished at this time and a new dam constructed submerging the flume once again.
