Description
Pencoed Leadworks was a 'smelting house for lead' and was erected in1l754-55 on a site close to the Loughor estuary. It was the first smelting house on the Llanelli coalfield. It does not seem to have been very successful and probably closed in about 1770. Much of the original structure was removed during the construction of the Llanelli Railway's extension to Pantyffynnon in l837-39, but some stone walls still stand to roof height.
