Description
Cwmgors Colliery was sunk towards the end of the nineteenth century by the Cwmgorse Colliery Company Ltd. A small colliery, it employed just 12 men by the turn of the century before being expanded just prior to the First World War. In the early 1920s, the colliery - by now known as the New Cwmgorse Colliery - was bought by the Cleeves Western Valleys Anthracite Company. It was closed on 9 May 1964 and the site subsequently cleared of buildings.
