Opened in 1852, this was the principal station of the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company. At ST 3150 8765 a pair of pillars which flanked the gate to the passenger station have rubbing plates bearing the Company's initials; a similar pair flanking the entrance to the goods station exist at ST 3170 8746.
