James Street Methodist Chapel was built in 1808, rebuilt in 1825, rebuilt again in 1860 and the old chapel converted for use as the Sunday School. During the late nineteenth century alterations were made with new heating and lighting systems, a gallery and organ. This chapel closed in 1983 and was demolished in 1985 in readiness for the new church built in 1986.
