PeriodPost Medieval
DescriptionAn earlier nineteenth century toll house occupying a corner plot at a crossroads, depicted with its gates on the 1st edition OS 1:500 Town Plan of 1888.
This is a distinctive two storey, octangonal plan building, with rendered walls under an octagonal hipped slate roof supported by corbels at the corners and crowned by a chimney. The building is completed by small streetfront single storey ranges on the west & north. The doorway is in the south wall and is shown with a porch in 1888. Most streetfront walls have sash windows, but the long east wall is blank. The building has a raised stone plinth and a band between floors.
