Event and Historical Information:
The ANNIE HOPE was an iron-hulled steamship Hawthorn & Co, Leith, in 1881. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 102gt, 64nt; 83ft length x 18ft 1in breadth x 8ft 3in depth; screw propulsion powered by a single steam boiler linked to compound engine. At time of loss, the vessel was owned by J W Hope & Sons, Leith, and was carrying a cargo of pipe clay from Bideford to Runcorn under the command of master G Golder. The ship ran onto the Plattes Rock (East Platters) on 13 March 1883, was holed and subsequently foundered.
