This site, believed to be the FAITH, was located by the indentification of an angular structure/anomaly within an area of sand ripples. The crests of the ripples are orientated northwest/southeast, whereas the structure is orientated perpendicular to the crests (i.e. northeast/southwest or 045/225 degrees). The anomaly measures 7.7m length x 5.2m breadth and has a height of 0.6m.
Event and Historical Information:
The FAITH was a wooden schooner built by Holman at Topsham in 1860 (official number 21778). Technical and configuration specifications are given as 76gt, 58nt; 80ft 8in length x 18ft 5in breadth x 8ft 8in depth. The schooner was owned at time of loss by E Hughes, Ralph St, Borth-y-Gest, and was enroute from Cardiff to Wexford with a cargo of coal. The schooner foundered 0.25m SW of St Ann's Head on 23 September 1916. The wreck was initially marked with a buoy, but had been dispersed by 14 October 1916. The wreck was sought as part of the Cadw-funded Coal and Slate Wrecks Project. This site was located during a marine geophysical survey of the general vicinity by Wessex Archaeology in April-May 2010.
