The fan house and drift, alongside the winder house and headframe (nprn 33711) of the Hetty Pit (nprn 275874), are the most prominent surviving features of the former Great Western Colliery (nprn 407677). The fan house, rebuilt around 1950, is a two storey, rusticated pennant-sandstone building alongside the valley road, adjacent to the winder house. It retains a 'Sirocco' fan.
