Description
A C19th stable range retaining the original (and now rare) wood block floor. Floors using wooden cobbles were recommended by equestrian experts because they were quieterand less slippery than conventional floors. The use of cwooden cobbles was extended to some commercial streets and bridges in the later C19th. Examples are noted at High Street, Pontypridd, and Conwy Suspension Bridge. They became obsolete with the motor car and the general use of tarmacadam. The subject is examined by Rhisiart ap Rhys Owen in 'Fferm a Thyddyn' 45 (2010). Photographed by RCAHMW. RFS/RCAHMW/2011.
