Description

St Stephen's church is located in Vicarage Close, set behind houses on the north side of Gelligaled Road (the A4058) at its junction with Penrhys Road.
The church was built in 1896 in Early English style to designs of E.M.Bruce Vaughan of Cardiff, and is larger than most of his Valleys churches. It is constructed of snecked local sandstone with Bath stone dressings and a red brick string course low down. It consists of a five-bay nave, north aisle, lower chancel, and porch at west gable end. It features geometrical tracery, side windows alternating one- and two-light, arcade with circular piers, and stiff-leaf foliage here and there.
