Description
Caerdeon Hall was bulit in 1850. St Philip's Church (NPRN 43899) was built by the owner of the Caerdeon estate, W E Jelff, in 1862, in order to provide a place for English language worship, particularly the Oxford undergraduates who came to Caerdeon Hall (NPRN 308044) for Classics tuition. it was licenced as a private chapel for the use of owner of the Caerdeon estate, W E Jelf, and friends. In 1869 Charles Darwin stayed at the house for some six weeks. Caerdeon hall was occupied by the Holland family from around 1875 to the early twentieth century. The house is now an outdoor activity centre owned by Liverpool Hope University.
