The Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) base at Aberporth controls military use of Cardigan Bay. It consists of three separate sites developed in the late 1930s and includes the main base, the adjacent Rangehead area and the airfield at Blaenannerch (nprn 270846) 3km to the south.
The main role of the base is the testing and development of anti-aircraft weapons, but also includes other weapons such as guided bombs, anti-ship missiles, lasers, etc.
