Penarth Yacht Club has its origins in the acquatic sports hosted in Penarth from 1880 onwards and mention is made in the trades directories of the town in the 1880s of a "Penarth Boat Club". The first minutes of the Penarth Yacht Club, however, date from 1893.The clubhouse / boathouse dates from that period and remains in use today. The site was originally occupied by a lifeboat station which is clearly marked on the 1st series Ordnance Survey mapping of the town (1879).
