The community of Berriew developed where the road through the Severn valley crossed over the River Rhiw. The Montgomeryshire Canal also passes alongside the village. The parish church is dedicated to St Bueno and contains three white marble effigies of Jacobean members of the Devereux family. The village has many picturesue half-timbered houses.
