Description
Smith's Canal is 2.1 kilometres (1. 3 miles) in length, and it ran from Llansamlet to the River Tawe at Foxhole. The canal was built in 1783-85 to replace the wagonway of Chauncey Townsend and it remained in use until 1852. The northern terminus was at SS 69365 97890 and the southern terminus was at Foxhole, SS 6630 9409, where the remains of stone-built coaling stages can be seen.
