The canal follows a course from SS68199319, its junction with the Tennant Canal at Port Tennant, to a terminal dock at SS68709426.
It is mostly filled in except for last few hundred metres. Originally, it was 1 mile long (C. Hadfield. )

A tramway (NPRN405630) links the branch to Tir-isaf Colliery.
