The former Rhondda & Swansea Bay Railway station at Cymmer opened in 1885 as 'Cymmer', was renamed 'Cymmer Afan' in 1926 and closed in 1970. The refreshment room survives as a public house 'The Refreshment Room', known locally as 'The Refresh.'
This station should not be confused with the Llynvi & Ogmore Railway, later Great Western Railway, station adjacent to the south.
