The former standard gauge Bala & Dolgelley Railway opened in 1868 and closed in 1965. In 1971 the line was resusitated by a local engineer, George Barnes, as the narrow-gauge (two foot gauge) Bala Lake Railway (Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid); it currently runs between Llanuwchllyn Station (nprn 41326) and Bala Lake Halt (nprn 41294), near Bala.
