Description
Penllwyn Tramroad Bridge carried the carried Penllwyn Tramroad over River Sirhowy to its connection with the Monmouthshire Canal (Company) tramroad at Nine Mile Point. The high level (15m / 50ft clearance) single arched stone bridge was built in 1824 and the brick was reinforced circa 1870. The name, Nine Mile Point derives from the distance from the Monmouthshire Canal Company's basin at Newport. The extra mile over the statutory 8 mile limit because of the interruption of the Park Mile Railway at Bassaleg.
