Description
Earthworks of a trackway, drive or road, running generally ESE-WNW for c.900m through Chirk Park (Nprn266483), acsending E-facing slopes from the park gate at Llwyn-y-cil (at SJ28093786), to round the N end of Pleasure Ground Wood (at SJ27303825), c.450m ENE of Chirk Castle (Nprn145757).
OS County series (Denbigh. XL.5 1873) shows trees along the line of this feature, apparently surving from an avenue, a double line being depicted at given NGR, the then drive running rather to the N: this drive & its associated gates & lodge appear to have been superceded by the present W entrance, in 1888.
Possibly to be identified with the Chirk road depicted in a 1742 engraving of an earlier drawing.
