'Bute Iron Works' shown on the 1880 OS 25in map. By 1901 the works had been renamed 'Bute Shipbuilding and Engineering Works' but had fallen into disuse. The works appears to have been established over the original (1794) site of the river terminus of the Glamorganshire Canal (nprn 34425), abandoned after the sea pound (nprn 400534) extension to the canal was built in 1798.

The site subsequently became part of Curran's (NPRN 422030).
