DescriptionA complex cropmark feature north-east of the Forden Gaer has been interpreted as a ludus, or military amphitheatre. It is known only from air photographs (CUAP CBF7) and geophysical survey (Silvester and Hankinson 2006, 6-8).
The complex centers on a circular 'arena' about 50m across, set within a shallow valley rising to a low ridge on its south-east side. The arena is encircled by a 10-20m band of discontinuous concentric features, which could represent seating banks.
Other features giving the appearance of a sinuous approach on the south and a second arena on the north, appear to be natural.
