The mill building at Pontysgawrhyd was rebuilt in 1810 and is three storeyed, constructed mainly of stone with a slate roof. A stone tablet on the north elevation reads: This Mill was Erected by Richd. Mytton Esqr. Anno Domin, 1810. The internal waterwheel is undershot, mostly of wood with iron rims. A large pit-wheel is set on the inner end of the wooden axle and drives a wallower on a vertical wooden shaft. The spurwheel above engages two stone nuts for the two pairs of millstones and an upward extension to the vertical shaft carries a crown wheel from which auxiliary drives to a thresher, wire flour-dressing machine and sack hoist are taken.
The mill was in poor condition at the time of a visit in 1997.
