Description
Newbridge iron furnace and forge was an ironworks operational at Newbridge near Cefn Mawr during the late 1700s or early 1800s. By 1820, the ironworks was owned by William Lacon. While in his ownership, a tramroad was built to connect the works with local sources of ironstone and coal. The site was sold to the British Iron Company in 1825. However, a decline in the iron market in the mid-1830s caused the forge to cease operations.

There are few material remains of the furnace visible today. A site visit in 2008 revealed that the foundations of the furnace are still partially visible. There are also remains of two sets of houses, which would have been occupied by workers at the forge.
