A 340 metres long curve, now around the north of Pontardawe town centre, but originally to take the northward course of the Swansea Canal as it crossed the Pontardawe Aqueduct to a more easterly course out of the Upper Clydach River Valley and back into a north-eastern course up the main Swansea Valley. The curve is situated between the Herbert Street and Holly/Arthur Street Bridges on the canal some 8.25 & 8.5 miles from Swansea. The canal is in water at this point and the towing-path walkable. The Swansea Canal at this point was built in 1796-98 by the engineer Thomas Sheasby Senior.
