Description
The remains of a weir lie across the River Clydach, north of Neath Abbey Ironworks (nprn 85096); its purpose was to retain a pound on the river for water power at the ironworks, supplied via a leat. The weir was formed by vertical timber planks, the iron framework for which still partly survives. The sluice structure is also still visible. The weir was part of a composite bridge-weir structure which carried an early horse-drawn railway across the river Clydach (nprn 34834).
