Description
Low winter sunlight has revealed the surviving north-eastern rampart of a largely plough-levelled univallate hillfort which crowns the highly prominent ridge of Coed y Gaer at a height of 362m. The section of rampart, some 40m long, has an outer ditch. The surviving contours of the summit here suggest the original dimensions of the hillfort to have been some 93m long (NE to SW) by 47m wide (NW to SE), enclosing around 0.3 hectare. The natural slopes of the hill fall away quite steeply on all sides. Discovered during RCAHMW aerial reconnaissance on 10th December 2009 (AP_2009_3835 to 3836).
T. Driver, RCAHMW, 4th January 2009.
