On the northern approach to the village of Llanfairfechan stands the presently named Ysgol Pant Y Rhedyn, which originally opened on 4 January 1909 as Llanfairfechan Council School. With accommodation for around 230 children, the Council School was built by Edward Owen, Llandudno, at a cost of £4,645 to the designs of Caernarvonshire County Architect Rowland Lloyd Jones. Situated on a site adjoining the main road to Penmaenmawr, the building consists of a single wide corridor with classrooms opening on to it. Five gables face the south-east elevations with the girls’ entrance at the south end and the boys’ entrance at the north end. Notably, the school also provided a ‘technical centre’ for the district. To the rear of the school, the ground falls steeply towards the railway.
