Description
The sawmill dates from 1859; the overshot waterwheel was still in use in 1939. It is 24 ft. diameter, with an iron axle, hubs and shrouds, wooden spokes and buckets. The wheel rim adjacent to the building carries a circular cogged rack which drives a pinion on an axle, taking the drive though the wall to the circular-saw bench within. The adjacent road is carried on an arch (nprn 23947) to allow long timbers to be put through the sawbench. Associated with a carpenter's workshop (nprn 41120)

The waterwheel (nprn 420151) has been moved to the village of Pontrhydygroes and re-erected as a working decorative feature, turning by water power although not driving any machinery.
