Site Description A later phase of the Gaer Park housing estate (nprn 410436), which was designed by Johnson Blackett, architect to Newport Borough Council. Built in the mid twentieth century, as a response to the need for post-war housing, the estate sits on the lower slopes to the east of Tredegar hillfort (nprn 93429), adjacent to earlier, inter-war housing. The wide, curving roads are named after writers, poets and playwrights and the estate embraces open space. A primary school forms part of the estate. The estate won an award of merit at the 1951 Festival of Britain.
