Description
Although no obvious evidence can be seen today, fields belonging to the farms of Lethr and Tanrhydiau were utilised to create a temporary camp for the 696the Armoured Field Artilllery Batallion , US Army, prior to D-Day in June 1944. Local residents suggest that M4 Medium Tank (Shermans) and 105 mm Howitzer Motor Carriage M7 (Priest self propelled guns) were amongst the armoured field equipment deployed her for approximately 6months before D-Day in June 1944. An airstrip for Piper Cub L4s of the Air Observation Post was also established to the south of the road.
