DescriptionAlthough nothing is visible from modern aerial photographs, documentary sources suggest that one of the lawns of Margam Castle was used by the US Army as an airstrip during World War II.
Event Historical Information:
The 109th Field Artillery Battalion of the 28th Division (Pennsylvannia National Guard) took over the catsle in November 1943 brining with them their Piper Cub L4 observation aircraft. Alhtough this lawn has been remodlled with paths and a cricket pitch, contemporary aerial photographs suggest it was the most open and flat area around the house.
