Shown and annotated as 'Pontypridd Colliery (No.1 Pit)' on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1875, by the time of the second edition map of 1900 it was known as 'Maritime Colliery'. It is associated with the nearby Maritime Colliery Coke Works (nprn 33597). Following closure the colliery was cleared and a new road runs through the site.
