Description
St Barbera's Chapel is known to have been situated in the vicinity of the Royal Oak Inn, possibly on land at the junction of Job's Well Road withthe B4312. It was mentioned in documents of 1584 and 1587. In 1917 a fragment of single lancet trefoiled window was noted to be preserved in the wall of an outbuilding. A vessel with four equidistant handles or ears was reportedly unearthed at that spot, and was given to the Roman Catholic Church of St Mary, Union Street. It was reportedly placed on a modern shaft and used as a stoup at the church entrance.
