Description
St John the Baptist church at Pontygwyddel was a daughter church to St Mary's at Llanfair Talhaiarn (NPRN 309578). It was built in 1882 at a road junction above the west bank of the Afon Elwy. It was a plain structure comprising chancel, nave, north-west porch, south-west vestry and a small bell gable and spirette. Inside, the white marble font stood on a stone base, but there were no memorials. Owing to the use of poor slate the church was re-roofed in 1911. It closed in 1982 and is now a dwelling, Bryn Egwys.
