Description

The church of St John the Evangelist is located above the north bank of the Afon Efyrnwy. It was built in 1853, consecrated in April 1855. It is constructed of squared rubble stone, mostly coursed, paler stone dressings, and slate roofs. Built to designs of R.Kyrke Penson in the Early English style, it comprises nave and narrower chancel, with north-east lean-to vestry, gabled timber south porch (renewed 1899), western single bellcote and lancet windows. The pulpit is of oak, the rest of the furniture in red deal. An adjacent school was built in 1872.
